DIVING EDUCATION
Diving Medical
Do I need to go to a Doctor?
Scuba diving is a safe and fun sport, but there are pre-existing medical conditions that can be accentuated when breathing compressed air. For that reason, when participating in an introductory Scuba Dive, Learning to Scuba Dive, joining a dive trip as an already certified diver or completing additional training courses, all participants are required to be fit to dive.
As some medical conditions may preclude you from participating in our diving activities, please take the time to read this information as some of the requirements may be relevant to you.
List of Requirements - Click on the links bellow
Medical conditions that will require further investigation include but not limited to:
- Asthma, wheezing or hay fever(current or history of same);
- Chronic lung disease;
- Surgery;
- Lung collapse;
- Epilepsy;
- Diabetes (even if controlled with diet);
- High Blood Pressure;
- Injury to the spinal column, brain, heart or heart disease;
- Problems equalising your ears or ear surgery as well as sinuses;
- Fainting;
- Regular dizzy spells;
- Taking medication for any other chronic conditions not already mentioned.
Other General Fitness Requirements
Open Water Diver students are required to be able to swim. During the course you will have to complete a 200 meters non-stop swim and 10 minutes survival float. You can use a variety of swim strokes and there is no time limit to complete the swim. If you are not able to complete the swim, you will not be able to continue with the course.
